Summer Assessment

In early August, parents of students who are registered for kindergarten will be contacted by Young Scholars to schedule a brief kindergarten pre-assessment. Parents will be asked to bring their child to the school to meet with one of the kindergarten teachers.  The pre-assessment will take about 30 minutes to administer and will provide us with some initial screening information we can use to plan for instruction.  If the schedule of pre-assessment times conflicts with your summer schedule, we will assess your child during the first two weeks of school.  Attending this pre-assessment session will give you and your child a chance to see your new school and meet the teachers.

 

Some of the skills that will be assessed are:

• Letter recognition

• Letter sound recognition

• Number recognition

• Rhyming

• Counting to 100

• Counting objects

• Shapes
